For Non-Profit Organizations

Does your nonprofit organization need a new website? Time to escape those Excel spreadsheets and get a real donor database? Trying to figure out how to build your social media presence? Don't have a budget to afford technical development? If so, then GiveCamp is for you!

GiveCamp is a weekend-long event that brings together technology professionals committed to providing your organization with solutions, strategies, and tools that can help you continue your good work … even more effectively and efficiently than before.

From designers, web developers and database administrators to marketers and web strategists, GiveCamp assembles a team of experienced professionals – all you need to do is apply to start the process.

What To Expect and How it Works

Business Analysis - Our team works for months prior to the event getting to know your project needs. This allows us to connect the right people to the right projects. You may have simple or complex needs; we need to determine this all through the months prior to GiveCamp. As such, we start with a Business Analysis Day on June 8th where we bring together professional Business Analysts to sit and talk with you about what you need. During that time, the analysts will determine and help scope the size of your project to fit into a GiveCamp weekend. With that in mind, your project may fit very well in a weekend effort, or it may require additional GiveCamp events to complete, or, optionally, provide you with a starting point to continue your efforts through your own means. As you may guess, your (or a representative of your organization) attendance at the Analysis Day is crucial. This lays the foundation of your needs and starts all of the efforts in motion.

Technical Analysis - After the analysis day, efforts continue for the next two months to finalize your needs. This may or may not require additional input from you. Once we have completed the Business Analysis period, and have determined that your project will be a part of GiveCamp, we conduct a Technical Analysis Day on August 10th. During that day, your Business Analysts will work with Technical Team Leaders to craft a technical solution for you and to determine the technological needs for the final GiveCamp weekend in October. Your attendance at the Technical Analysis Day is optional but highly recommended.

GiveCamp Weekend - Once the analysis is complete and the technical team is assembled, we are ready to go into GiveCamp Weekend on October 18-20. During that time, all the needed developers, designers, engineers and more are brought together to work on your project. It's an aggressive marathon of work combined with a labor of love. Teams work around the clock or as needed to make your dream become a reality. Your (or a representative of your organization) attendance at GiveCamp is crucial. There are opening and closing presentations which introduce your cause to the community at large and help acquaint names, faces and organizations. Then, throughout the event, your input and guidance will help speed along your project as teams may have questions that only you can answer. Your attendance will allow the teams to educate you on the project they are developing and how best for you to maintain and manage your final product.

Baltimore GiveCamp is a volunteer based event. Volunteers are only devoted to the effort at hand and the times allocated. Thus - "What Happens at GiveCamp, Concludes at GiveCamp". There is no continued development or support by the volunteers expected beyond the weekend. However, we highly encourage you to get to know your team members, spend a lot of time with them over the weekend, treat them nicely, and forge a relationship as some might be willing to help you in the future.

Once GiveCamp is complete, we trust that you will have made your miracle happen or be well on your way to making it happen. We also trust that you will have created new relationships with people that share your passion and conviction.

How to Get Involved

The Baltimore GiveCamp operates through three phases. It is important that you organization be involved as much as possible as your input and direction are critical to the success of your project. These phases happen over three separate dates and times.

Business Analysis Day
Saturday June 8, 2013 at 9:00 AM at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum MD.

This is a critical time for your organization to be involved as Camp organizers and Business Analysts will be spending their time with you to gather your requirements. They will be looking at the details of what you need done and how best to scope your work efforts for a three day weekend in October.

The event will open at 9 am and will continue through the day until around 5 pm. During this time, we will introduce you to the GiveCamp process, get to know each of you and your organizations more and then spend the majority of the time with our analysis teams working directly with you.

ATTENDANCE: You or a representative from your organization MUST attend this event or have made other arrangements with the GiveCamp team in order to participate in Baltimore GiveCamp.

GiveCamp Weekend
Friday October 18 through Sunday October 20, 2013 at UMBC - Catonsville, MD.

This is the actual GiveCamp weekend. During this time, all of our development teams, designers, analysts and organizers will be working on your project. It is important that you or someone from your organization that will be involved with this project be at the GiveCamp as needed. This will be your opportunity to work directly with the developers to make sure you are getting what you need. This is also your opportunity to learn about the technology that your team is using and how you will take over control of that once the GiveCamp is done. So, for the long-term success of your project, it is highly recommended that you spend as much time with your team during the GiveCamp.

The GiveCamp weekend will begin on Friday at 5 PM and will continue through to Sunday at 5 PM. Food, drinks (including plenty of coffee), prizes, break-time treats and much more will be provided through the event. Details on places to catch a nap or freshen up are still forthcoming and this website notice will be updated accordingly as they are available.

ATTENDANCE: You or a representative from your organization MUST attend this event or have made other arrangements with the GiveCamp team in order to participate in Baltimore GiveCamp.
